Clare Owen joins list of 'Home-Grown' authors
We are super excited to welcome Clare Owen into our list of 'Home-Grown' authors this year.
Clare's amazing debut Adult Fiction novel, Creatures of a Brief Season, is being edited by the very talented Emma Timpany and will be published by Hermitage Press in early September ready for the last of the 2025 festivals and in time for Christmas.
This beautiful book is written as a dual narrative, and casts an unflinching look at the challenges of old age seen through the eyes of a complex, often cantankerous protagonist, is comparable to Elizabeth Strout’s Olive Kitteridge; in putting a carer and her attempts to carve out space for herself centre stage as well, the novel is also akin to Clare Chambers’ Small Pleasures. And the international prize winning When the Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén.

Before settling in Cornwall in 2002, Clare completed an English degree at Oxford University and two year acting training working mainly in theatre and performing at venues including the Oxford Playhouse, the National Theatre, Theatre Royal Windsor, the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Once in Cornwall, Clare made a commitment to focus on her writing, and has since been published in literary magazines and anthologies. Clare's YA novel, Zed and the Cormorants, was published by Arachne Press in 2021 and won the Holyer an Gof Young Adult award the following year.
