In this Talk Clare will be talking about Hirethow her first Short story collection which is being published this summer by Hermitage Press
Appealing to readers who love Daisy Johnson, Sophie MacIntosh and Tessa Hadley
and enjoy the space where daily life, sense of place and the uncanny collide, Hirethow
explores what it means to live in Cornwall today, through characters shaped by the promise and punch of coping with the modern world.
Ten characters. Ten lenses through which hireth is seen. Small moments held up to the
light, heartbreak wrought by sea wind and salt. What does loss and longing mean to someone who has not yet lived? How do you survive the envy, hope and heartbreak of pregnancy and birth? And what, exactly have these walls seen?
Clare Howdle is a writer and editor who lives in Falmouth. She has
written for national and local newspapers and magazines and contributed to many Cornwall travel guides. Her fiction has been listed for the Lucy Cavendish Prize, the Mslexia Prize and the Bath Short Story Award and published in the Sunday Times, Litro, Riptide, Inkfish and more. In 2023, Clare’s story ‘Little Lights’ was featured in 12 Stories for 12 Sections. And Still Bird in Hermitage's latest anthology of Cornish Writers - Salt & Stone.
